Free wheels

Free wheels

On the outside, these components look very similar to bearings and in certain types they also have the same outer dimensions. Their task is that of being able to turn freely with reduced friction in one direction and to engage, transmitting a torque, in the other. They are indeed also known as non-return systems.

This type of operation may be requested for safety reasons, for example, in infeed or lifting systems; to make the functions of acting as a free support and a joint in the same component compatible; to be able to return empty after performing a phase that requires the application of a certain force.
